This month was all about cars, trains, boats, and construction vehicles. We had lots of fun learning about the different kinds of transportation all around us.This week we made fruit s'mores with strawberries, banana, blueberries, chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, and graham crackers. We made our own ukulele with recyclable materials and played it during music time. We learned that the islands grew pineapples and sugar cane, so of course we had to make pineapple cupcakes.This week we learned about dinosaurs. We learned some of the dinosaurs' names and what dinosaurs ate by looking at their teeth. We learned many new vocabulary words such as carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore. It was so much fun learning about dinosaurs!This week we learned about people in the community who help us. We have such awesome parents that came to help us with hands-on learning. They came to share with us their jobs as a doctor for mommies and babies, a pilot for an air ambulance, and a veterinarian. We learned about the mail and mail carriers. We were able to see the mail truck and meet the mail carrier who delivers our school mail. They played dress-up with scarves, mittens, and socks. Since it does not snow in Hawaii (except on Mauna Kea and Haleakala), they made and played with pretend "snow" made from a mixture of corn starch and shaving cream.
